I use paint to sculpt my surroundings; I look at life and paint only what seems perfect to me. The impression of life satisfies me enough to create. I escape by using scale to take myself out of my own world and into one where I can recreate what feels pleasing to me. Utilizing various painting techniques, I employ analogous and complementary color schemes to create layered, hierarchical pieces that stimulate my desire for serenity.
My paintings must be intentional: earned, built, and valued. I use painting as a tool for myself when I need it, when I need to be calmed. When I allow myself to be patient, I am able to work quickly.
Once I have finished a painting, it serves no function to me. I feel it grants me no emotion by looking at it. A finished piece simply reflects my internal journey of processing and filtering reality to idealize my surroundings.
